EAA ATTENDS TWO LABOR RALLYS

EAA ATTENDS TWO LABOR RALLYS

Several EAA members attended two labor events on April 17, 2008. They first joined with Teamsters from across the nation in a rally to organize the truck drivers at the Port. National Teamster president Jimmy Hoffa, Jr. spoke at this event and his remarks and presence were extremely well received by the truckers and others in attendance. Brother Hoffa and the Teamsters arrived in a long parade of motorcycles and big rigs. They headed south along Harbor Boulevard and turned into the Ports-of-Call area where the bikes passed through the crowd. An inspiring show as usual since large numbers of Teamsters demonstrated their solidarity. They mixed good times with food and speeches. EAA members met many old friends, some of whom helped us during our job actions not that long ago. A good time was had by all.

EAA members then went to berth 87 for the end of the Hollywood to the Docks labor solidarity march. When their event was completed, the Teamsters marched to berth 87 to join with all the southern California unions in greeting those who had walked 28 miles over three days to emphasize labor solidarity. A large contingent of our ILWU “Longie” friends were present and we renewed more acquaintances. Entertainment was provided by singer Tawny Ellis and her band. This was followed by organizing/solidarity speeches by a variety of labor figures and politicians.

  • All EAA members should attend these events as our presence is noted by members of other unions, laying the ground for their continued mutual support of labor causes. If labor unions stick together, great things can be accomplished.
