DAILY NEWS ATTRIBUTES DEFICIT TO CITY EMPLOYEES

The Daily News is planning to run another article bashing city employees for earning too much money. They will claim this is the cause of the current alleged City financial difficulties. This is not an unusual stance for the Daily News, a newspaper that never met a city employee it liked. The article is authored by Beth Barrett and should be running within the next day or two.

Engineers and Architects Association’s Executive Director Bob Aquino was contacted by the Daily News for a comment. Mr. Aquino submitted the following statement for this article:

“EAA represented city employees are all required to have either college degrees or extensive technical training. This means they had to make large investments of personal capital and time to develop their extensive skills.

The city was forced to acknowledge on the record during our last contract negotiation that EAA represented city employees perform safety sensitive functions that the citizens of Los Angeles cannot live without.

In order for the citizens of Los Angeles to have highly educated and skilled employees such as those represented by EAA they have to offer them a fair wage and compensation package.”

We will see when the article appears if Ms. Barrett quotes our Executive Director correctly.
